Experimental self service check-in for luggages

The test shall begin in July

There are some news for passengers in transit at Amsterdam airport: passengers leaving from Schiphol will be soon able to avoid queues and waiting times thanks to an automated machine system which will take care of the luggage check-in.

Check in self service Schiphol

The machine is currently being tested at Schiphol, in collaboration with the air company Klm and it will permit to passengers who have already checked-in at the desk, at self-service or via internet, to load their luggages through this new device.

This is the first experiment of its kind, said a Klm spokeswoman

Basically passengers have to put their luggages on a wide white machine, insert their boarding card, and answer some common security questions through a touch-screen. The machine weighs the luggage and prints a tag, which must be put on the suitcase.
Luggages shall be subject to the same terms and restrictions adopted at the traditional desk.

During this experimental phase - said the spokeswoman- an officer will be in charge of the passport controls, in order to ascertain the effective correspondence between luggage and passenger. But in the future the automated machines will be able to scan all documents,  just like the self-service check-ins already in use.
